SILATEC machine safety screens with polycarbonate - products

SILATEC machine safety screens are absolutely transparent and safe. We offer these in different designs:

SILATEC Type: Glass - Compound - PC - Surface protection

With this SILATEC machine safety screen, glass and polycarbonate are fully fitted and joined with the SILATEC adhesive absolutely transparently. If this machine safety screen is destroyed, no large glass splinters fall into the tooling machine.

The glass surface faces towards the CNC machine and protects the polycarbonate against chemical corrosions (e.g. cooling lubricants) from the tooling machine. The edge compound of this SILATEC safety screen with polycarbonate can optionally be produced with a surrounding seal and is therefore protected as well.

The polycarbonate surface faces towards the operator and thus protects him against outgoing glass splinters. We normally provide this polycarbonate surface with a scratch-resistant coating. Please observe our "Take Care" (Tc) instructions with regard to this.

SILATEC Type: Glass - Compound - PC - Compound - Glass - Surface protection

These symmetrical SILATEC safety screens for tooling machines consist of glass on both sides. The polycarbonate is joined fully with the glass on both sides by the SILATEC adhesive. Cooling lubricants or other chemicals cannot reach or corrode the polycarbonate from either of the two sides. The edge compound of this SILATEC safety screen with polycarbonate can optionally be produced with a surrounding seal and is therefore protected as well.

Since the operator side of this safety screen for tooling machines consists of glass, we also recommend a splinter protection film to protect the operator. Please observe our instructions.

All values are subject to the common tolerances. Adherence to our special glazing guideline is required.

This delivery program shows our established products. We produce in addition also nonstandard special solutions. Please ask us.

We reserve the right to change the technical information, changes in the delivery program as well as changes of our references. Adherence to the legal regulations is required for all applications. Adherence to our special glazing guidelines is required, because our warranty is otherwise canceled.

When in doubt, please contact us.

Installation: SILATEC machine safety screens have only one permissible installation direction, which is indicated explicitly on the screen. This must be observed under all circumstances, since the protective effect will no longer be fulfilled otherwise. The protective side (operator side) normally consists of polycarbonate / plastic with a surface protective coating (Tc) and must be handled with care. Please observe our "Take Care" (Tc) instructions with regard to this. SILATEC machine safety screens have a surrounding visible edge compound for production reasons. The safety screen must be fastened in the machine structure according to the requirements.

Note:Owing to the ageing of polycarbonate, machine safety screens have a limited period of use. As regards replacement, the machine guidelines, machine-specific standards and statutory regulations must be observed. You can find further details concerning replacement deadlines, for example, at the Employers' Liability Insurance Association (BG) or at the German Machine Tool Builders' Association (VDW)

Benefits of SILATEC safety screens with polycarbonate for tooling machines

SILATEC safety glass for CNC machines consist of glass and polycarbonate. Both materials are joined across their entire surface. This means that SILATEC safety screens for tooling machines are particularly resistant and offer many benefits:

Work safety:

SILATEC machine safety glass provides effective protection for machine operators. Our machine safety glass screens are tested at the IWF Berlin and our company is certified according to ISO 9001.

Long lasting and safe:
The fully transparent SILATEC adhesive encloses the polycarbonate to the glass surface thereby preventing the penetration of cooling lubricants. In the case of unprotected polycarbonate screens, which are stressed due to cooling lubricants, the energy absorption capacity is reduced significantly and is a safety risk for the operator.

Perspective:
SILATEC safety screens for tooling machines are absolutely transparent and guarantee the best possible perspective for the operator. They reflect approx. 50% to 70% less light than safety screens made of polycarbonate, which are joined by air intermediate layers. This is because each boundary surface to the air reflects the light. See this for yourself - with a sample screen.

Design:
We produce any geometry: Circle, polygon, sections as well as cylindrically curved, of course. Upon request, we colour the machine protective screen - according to your design requirements. Each section can be integrated into the SILATEC safety screen for machines as needed. For example, hole cut-outs for rotating viewing windows (Rotoclear, Visiport)
By the way: the largest protective screen produced by us is 8,000 mm long. (find out more at silatec.de)

Machine protective window = safety screen + frame
Upon request, we deliver our protective screens ready-to-use with frames. Produced in one-piece or two-piece. Hence, the complete machine protective window.

Noise protection:
SILATEC machine protection viewing windows have very high soundproofing values and reduce the machine noise - this is ensured by our noise-reducing SILATEC compound technology.

Customized production:
We can produce any other out-of-the-ordinary safety screen - made of polycarbonate (PC) and glass. Just ask us.

R&D
We are constantly developing our safety screens for tooling machines. Visit our R&D and speak with us about our development and the ideal solution for your machine.

Testing machine safety screens according to DIN EN ISO 23125 for lathes and lathe centres

In this standard, the tests for separable safety guards on lathes and lathe centres are regulated, among other things. The standard distinguishes between nine different resistance classes from A1 to C3. If, for example, the machine safety screen meets resistance class C1, this does not necessarily mean that the underlying resistance class B3 is met. The reason for this is due to the fact that the machine safety screen is fired at with projectiles of different weights. In resistance class A, the projectile weighs 0.625 kg, in resistance class B it weighs 1.25 kg and in resistance class C it weighs 2.5 kg. The projectiles also vary in diameter and front surface.

The resistance classes with the associated impact velocity of the projectile or the impact energy can be found in the table below. This also includes the data for the three different projectiles used.

Test of machine safety screens according to DIN EN 12417
for machining centres

In this standard, the tests for separable safety guards on machining centres are regulated, among other things. In the test, the machine safety screens are fired at with a 100g projectile of 20 mm in diameter at various projectile velocities. The test is considered successful if no continuous crack is present or if the test screen could not be penetrated.

The resistance classes differ in terms of the different projectile velocities.

The energy is calculated by the following formula:

Example:

This means that a projectile with a mass of 0.1 kg and a speed of 100 m/s is equivalent to an energy of 500 Joule. In the table below you will find selected projectile velocities(100g projectile) with the associated energies.
